Romney's votes...corrupt political leaders

At the time in February 2008 when Mitt faced the reality of the RNC corruptness, he had received over 4 million votes and McCain had received 4.7 million votes. And yet the RNC had rigged things so the Mitt had about 1/4 the number of delegates that McCain had.

A wise man would admit that the system was rigged and walk away. Romney being a class act, just said "Thanks" and walked away. Here's a quote from his address to CPAC on 2/7/08:

"Last year, CPAC gave me the sendoff I needed. I was in single digits in the polls, and I was facing household Republican names. As of today, more than 4 million people have given me their vote for President, less than Senator McCain's 4.7 million, but quite a statement nonetheless."

That is quite a statement. And without Huckabee sucking off votes, it would have been closer. Anyway... the smart man walked away and the corrupt career politician continued (is using the words "corrupt" and "career" together with the word "politician" being redundant?). McCain was unraveling when Romney walked away. Twould have been interesting.

But as seen in the state of Washington primary, the Republican party chooses the winner, not the voters. With over 1500 votes left to count and McCain only 252 votes ahead of Huckabee, the Washington Republican committee chairman "called" the election, giving the win to McCain. I guess he was afraid their chosen candidate, McCain, might lose if they allowed all of the votes to be counted.

And after Florida, Bush, and Gore, the political leaders know all too well how confusing that can be to the general population who still labors under
the illusion that the USA has an election process where the votes choose the winner.
